The Long Island Sound House, designed by Ellie Cullman of Cullman & Kravis Associates and architect David Scott Parker, is a warm, cozy, and unconventional house that reflects the owners’ personal and professional interests. The house, set on a rocky point overlooking Long Island Sound, was conceived to be “grand” in the sense of bighearted rather than fancy. Designer Ellie Cullman and architect David Scott Parker knew that giving the house its own idiosyncratic design language would address its subtle mixture of aesthetic paradoxes. The architecture and interiors are rooted in a sense of materiality, with elements like timber, stone, lime plaster, and bronze. The house’s restraint with materials is offset by an easy eclecticism when mixing antique and vintage items with contemporary craft. (Instagram photo)
