Entryway Designed by Kristen Blood Featured in Architectural Digest

Mixing traditional and tropical elements reflect the owner’s impressions of island life.

Architect Stan Dixon designed a contemporary home in Sea Island, Georgia, incorporating six century-old live oak trees and their branches to create a unique and distinctive feature. The home measures about 5,000 square feet and feels historically informed with detailed architecture that balances scale with character. The design incorporates the lush climate, which facilitates the growth of numerous plants, including hydrangeas. Inspired by the Caribbean Colonial designs of Oliver Messel, they incorporated awnings, latticework, and other decorative woodwork throughout the house. The interiors, by Kemble Interiors’ Kristen Blood, were injected with essentials for island living, including wicker and woven materials and coral accents. The metal mirrors with leather hangers, were sourced from Casamidy in San Miguel de Allende. They worked collaboratively from the beginning of the process, ensuring a mutual concept and plan that complemented the architecture. (Pinterest photo)
